Lors d’un séjour à Pompadour, un apparent hasard conduit Margaret Williams devant une propriété plongée dans le brouillard et croulant sous les roses.
Malgré elle, comme poussée par une force surnaturelle, elle ose frapper à la porte. Une belle femme d’âge mûr lui ouvre. Sylvie est pâle, semble fatiguée et vulnérable, mais elle arbore un sourire avenant. Charmée par le fort accent de la visiteuse, elle l’invite spontanément à prendre le thé.
Comme si elle avait attendu Margaret depuis toujours, elle se met alors à lui raconter que jadis, à 17 ans, elle est partie en Louisiane et y a rencontré Jack, un homme marié aussi séduisant qu’énigmatique. Une étincelle a jailli et ne s’est jamais éteinte. Depuis ce jour, cet amour reste pour Sylvie un grand bonheur qu’elle continue quotidiennement de goûter avec délectation.
Au fil du récit, entre les murs de cette charmante villa à l’atmosphère étrange, Margaret sent que tout n’est pas comme veut bien le laisser croire son hôtesse. Un mystère plane, tous les morceaux ne collent pas.
Intriguée, fascinée, l’Américaine accepte l’invitation de Sylvie, qui se sent bien seule en l’absence de son Jack occupé par ses affaires, de venir la trouver chaque jour et de bavarder avec elle. Mais que se cache-t-il donc derrière ce visage joli et fragile?

During a trip to Pompadour, Margaret Williams happens to come across a residence surrounded by fog and overgrown with roses.
As though compelled by some strange, unknown force, Margaret feels drawn to knock at the door. A beautiful elderly woman answers. Pale, tired-looking and vulnerable, Sylvie’s smile is welcoming and, upon hearing Margaret’s lovely accent, spontaneously invites her in for a cup of tea.
Almost as though Sylvie had always been waiting for Margaret, she begins telling her how, at the age of 17, she left for Louisiana where she met Jack, a deeply seductive and enigmatic married man. Sparks immediately flew and the passion never died. This love remained a source of immeasurable happiness for Sylvie which still brought her much joy to this very day.
Throughout the story which is told within the walls of the charming yet peculiar villa, Margaret somehow feels that everything is not quite what Sylvie would like her to believe. The entire situation was shrouded in mystery… the pieces did not fit.
Intrigued and captivated, the American woman accepts Sylvie’s invitation to return daily for conversation. With Jack absent for business reasons, Sylvie feels rather lonely. But what is her beautiful delicate face hiding?
