De retour d’un séjour en France, où elle a chanté dans différents théâtres lyriques, Hermine est confrontée à la disparition de sa demi-sœur Kiona. De son côté Toshan, toujours en Europe, rencontre par le plus grand des hasards une proche parente de la femme avec laquelle il a eu une aventure durant la guerre. Le Métis lui propose de s’établir au Québec, offre que la jeune femme accepte. Alors que Kiona revient enfin de sa fugue, la famille Chardin accueille avec joie celle de Charlotte, revenue d’Allemagne après un périple de trois ans. Or, une tragédie forcera son mari, Ludwig, à accompagner Toshan et son fils Mukki au bord de la rivière Péribonka, où ils devront remettre le camp du Seigneur des forêts en état pour le prochain hiver.
Alors que comme d’habitude, la saison froide s’annonce longue et rigoureuse, les trois hommes sont-ils au fait des nombreux chassés-croisés amoureux qui forgeront à jamais le destin de plusieurs membres de ce clan si particulier?
Brillamment écrit par Marie-Bernadette Dupuy, le roman L’Ange du Lac est le sixième et dernier tome de la saga de Val-Jalbert, initiée en 2008 avec L’Enfant des neiges. Cette série typiquement jeannoise a fait découvrir l’ancien village industriel et le Lac-Saint-Jean à des centaines de milliers de lecteurs et lectrices francophones, ukrainiens et russes.

Back from a trip to France, where she sang in various opera companies, Hermine must now cope with the disappearance of Kiona, her half-sister. Meanwhile, Toshan is still in Europe where he has a chance encounter with a close relative of the woman he had a relationship with during the war and invites her to settle in Quebec. Whereas Kiona returns home after running away, the Chardins gladly welcome Charlotte and her family, who are returning from Germany after a three-year journey. Tragedy forces her husband, Ludwig, to accompany Toshan and his son, Mukki, to the Peribonka River, where they will work hard to prepare the Seigneur des Forêts camp for the following winter.

Brilliantly written by Marie-Bernadette Dupuy, Angel of the Lake is the sixth and final volume of the Val-Jalbert saga, which began in 2008 with Snow Child (L’Enfant des neiges).
